Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was taken into custody by paramilitary forces from outside the High Court in Islamabad on Tuesday (May 9). As per reports, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been arrested in corruption cases. Khan has been summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) several times for his connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan has over 120 cases registered against him in various courts. Imran Khan came to Islamabad High Court to seek bail against various cases filed against him.
The official Twitter handle of PTI shared a video which shows Imran being taken away in a vehicle by paramilitary personnel. It also shared a video of Imran’s lawyer, which claimed he was “badly injured inside the premises of the IHC”.
What is Al-Qadir Trust Case?
Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi along with other PTI leaders are allegedly involved in the Al-Qadir University Project Trust. According to reports, Khan, his wife and others struck a deal with a property tycoon that caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.
PTI leaders are accused of receiving undue benefits in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the establishment of Al-Qadir University. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah held a press conference in June last year to announce the formation of a committee to probe the allegations against Imran Khan.
After the arrest of Imran Khan, his supporters protested in various cities. Several videos of the protesters are also being shared on Twitter. In many videos, many people are seen marching and raising slogans in support of Imran Khan. PTI General Secretary Asad Umar has announced that the six-member party committee will soon come out with a plan of further action.
