Air India on Thursday said it will give a full refund to all passengers of its Delhi-San Francisco flight who were stuck in a remote area of Russia due to a technical snag. In a statement, the airline said that Air India will give a full refund to all the passengers of this flight along with a voucher of their own for future travel.
Air India flight AI 173 had taken off from Delhi on June 6, but had to land in Magadan, a remote area of Russia due to technical fault in the engine. There were 216 passengers and 16 crew members in this aircraft.
Air India on Wednesday dispatched a relief flight from Mumbai to evacuate the stranded passengers from Magadan. The plane carrying passengers and crew from Magadan reached San Francisco on Thursday. Thus, the passengers of Air India’s AI 173 flight took around 56 hours to complete their journey from Delhi to San Francisco.
Apologizing to the passengers for the inconvenience caused, the airline said that the pilot had decided to land the aircraft at the nearest airport, giving priority to the safety of the passengers, after noticing some technical problem in one of the engines of the aircraft.
