Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a joint session of the US Congress on Thursday (June 22), the second day of his US tour. In his speech, PM Modi mentioned India’s growing strength, economy and the hard work of the Indian community spread across the world. During this, when PM Modi mentioned the samosa caucus in the house, the house echoed with applause.
PM Modi said, millions of people in America have their roots in India and some of them are part of the House today. Pointing towards Kamala Harris, the PM said, one of them is sitting behind, who has created history. PM Modi further said, I have been told that the Samosa Caucus is now a part of the House. I hope it grows and brings in the full variety of Indian cuisine. On saying this by PM Modi, the house echoed with the sound of applause for a long time.
What is Samosa Caucus?
The Samosa Caucus was first discussed in 2016, when 5 Indian-origin MPs were elected to the US Parliament for the first time. These members often met each other. Among them was Raja Krishnamurthy, a member of the US House of Representatives, who named the club the Samosa Caucus. It is now used to describe the increasing representation of persons of South Asian descent in the American political landscape.
