Foreign Minister S Jaishankar’s big statement has come to the fore on those who left India and settled abroad. Giving information to the Parliament on Friday, the External Affairs Minister said that this year i.e. in 2023 itself, till the month of June, 87,026 Indians have given up their citizenship and settled abroad. In a written reply, the External Affairs Minister said that since 2011, more than 17.50 lakh Indians have renounced their citizenship. Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that 2,25,620 Indians in 2022, 1,63,370 in 2021 and 85,256 Indians in 2020 renounced their citizenship and settled abroad. He told Parliament that the number of Indians seeking a global workplace has been significant over the past two decades. Many of them have opted for foreign citizenship due to personal convenience.
Jaishankar said- Indian community present abroad is our asset. We are constantly taking steps to build better relations with them. He said that the government has implemented several changes to engage with the Indian diaspora. The influential Indian diaspora is an asset for us and we will continue to take steps for the development of the country through them.
Let us tell you that the Finance Minister told that the Indian community living abroad is an asset for this country. The government has brought a sea change in the way it engages with the Indian community. A successful, affluent and influential Indian community means a lot to India. He said that the approach of the government has been to use the networks of this diaspora to benefit India.
