Kapil Sibal reaches SC for ban on ‘The Kerala Story’, hearing on May 15

The case of the famous film ‘The Kerala Story’ has once again reached the Supreme Court. This time the petitioners have filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order refusing to grant an interim stay on the film. On the demand of early hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court has approved the hearing on May 15. The Kerala High Court had refused to grant an interim stay on the film’s release on May 5. The High Court had seen the trailer of the film before passing the order.

The High Court had said that nothing against any community has been said in the film. The order has been challenged in the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, Kapil Sibal mentioned the petition before the bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, requesting an early hearing on the matter. Even before this, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on the release of the film, calling it hate-mongering against Muslims.

The film The Kerala Story has been surrounded by controversies ever since its release on May 5. In many states there is a demand to make the film tax free, while in some states this film has been banned. Pandit Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has already banned this movie attacking BJP. At the same time, the Multiplex Association in Tamil Nadu has decided not to screen the film due to security reasons, for which the producer and director of the film have already gone to court.
