The Congress on Friday said it will move the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court order refusing to stay the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case.
AICC general secretary (organisation) in Kozhikode KC Venugopal said the party would appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the Gujarat High Court order.
Addressing a party program, Venugopal said, “We have one more option…Supreme Court. lets see. The Congress party will explore that option as well.”
Venugopal said “We will study the Gujarat HC judgment on the sentencing of Shri @RahulGandhi ji and explore all available legal options. Rahul ji is a fierce voice who gives a tough challenge to the Modi government. No force can silence them, truth will prevail and justice will prevail. Eventually there will be victory. Every patriotic Indian is in support of Rahul ji in this fight.”
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the judge’s reasoning was being studied and the matter would be taken forward.
“We have noted the judgment of the single-judge bench of the Gujarat High Court on the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi. The reasoning of the Hon’ble Judge is being studied, as it should be.
“This decision doubles our resolve to pursue the case,” Ramesh said on Twitter. Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala termed it as a “travesty of justice”.
In a tweet, Surjewala said, “Instead of punishing the ‘bank fraudsters’ like Nirav Modi, Ami Modi, Neeshal Modi, Mehul Choksi and the like, the ‘messengers’ who exposed the fraud and swindle of public money going.”
