A big accident happened in Greece. A small fishing vessel full of migrants sank here late at night about 75 kilometers southwest of the southern Peloponnese region. About 79 people died in this accident. While hundreds of people have gone missing.
Rescue operation has been started immediately after getting information about the accident. Drones, including six Coast Guard ships, a Navy ship, an Army transport aircraft and an Air Force helicopter, are also being used in the rescue operation.
The Coast Guard said that the rescue operation had to be stopped due to darkness but it was resumed in the early hours of Thursday. Dozens of migrants rescued in the incident have been sent by ambulance service to the camps for treatment.
According to the information, 104 people have been rescued. These include 30 Egyptians, 10 from Pakistan, 35 from Syria and two Palestinians. The Greek Coast Guard said that it could not be confirmed yet how many passengers were missing on the boat. The Italy-bound boat is believed to have left the Tobruk area in eastern Libya.
