There may be a major reshuffle in the Congress Working Committee before the Lok Sabha elections. The current CWC also includes several special invitees and heads of frontal organizations like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, besides 25 permanent members. During the plenary session of the Congress held in Raipur in February this year, party president Mallikarjun Kharge was authorized to nominate the members of the CWC instead of electing them.
Congress in its working committee had amended its constitution to provide 50 per cent reservation for SC, ST, OBC, women, youth and minorities. The party also increased the number of CWC members from 25 to 35. So there many senior leaders say that new talents should be brought in to fill new oxygen in the sick Congress Working Committee. According to sources, Sahai’s name is the most discussed for entry in CWC by Ramesh Chennithala, Rajya Sabha MP Ranjit Ranjan, former Dalit Congress chief Nitin Raut, and many other senior people.
According to sources, the most discussed is to bring those people in the committee, who have practical experience of contesting elections. The Congress believes that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, people who understand the ground reality will be needed for better coordination with the allies and to give a fight to the BJP. According to the party’s amended constitution, the highest decision-making body of the Congress will now include former prime ministers of the party and former chiefs of the All India Congress Committee.
